I was browsing through the internet, an activity I actively engage in lately to while away my time, having quit my job a year ago. With the little one on its way, it seemed like the right thing to do: to quit my job and be a full-time mom. Your newborn kid surely needs a mother more than the boss needs an Editor with her eyes set on spotting errors in the latest manuscript. Before I became a mom, I was a shopaholic whose heart melted every weekend upon seeing alerts of big sales happening in and around me. Cheesy it may sound, but I love it when I receive emails with a subject line that reads – “It’s Raining Discounts!” How’s a lady who loves her clothes from the depths of her heart, to give up on this addiction (as some killjoys like to call it)?
Recently, a new trend has caught my attention and there’s hope after all for Shopaholics such as I. The profession is called ‘Personal Shopping’ and as a ‘Personal Shopper’ one can indulge in as much Shopping as the heart desires and in return, get paid for the services rendered. Who would have thought this would be possible? In India, so far, there’s one platform that allows you to do this and that’s Shoppist. Elsewhere on Earth, this has been going on for a while now and I’m thrilled to no end to find this platform right here in India.
I can browse through endless dresses, tops, accessories, shoes, bags and then pick the best of the lot to help other Shopaholics in their time of need. Sometimes, there just isn’t enough time to waste when I’m looking for that perfect summer dress for a day out with the love of my life. I understand how painful it is to keep looking for that perfect look, and end up with something so far from what you had envisioned, for such an important day that will surely go down in the history of romantic days of your life. The last thing you want to do is be in a miserable state of mind while the guy of your dreams is at kissing distance from you. Somehow, guys don’t seem to care what clothes they have put on while they are out and about philandering/courting/dating, but girls who don’t care are a rarity. I may be wrong.
Now, getting back to the art of Personal Shopping for helping shoppers in need before I find myself drifting away from the topic again. Wonderful, isn’t it? To be able to turn Shopping into a job you can do, no matter where you are or who you are. I sure am excited, and I hope you are too. You will be hearing a lot more from me, as I explore this delightful new way of making an extra buck as a ‘Personal Shopper’, while the sparkling new todd creates trouble in my personal paradise.
